One of CLT’s most unique MCM homes is on the market

“Wow!”

That is a common reaction from people who have been inside this jaw-dropping mid-century modern home in south Charlotte.
It’s hard to imagine that this straight-from-the-movie-set property was, at one time, rundown and in need of considerable renovations, if not a complete teardown. But that’s how it began, say the homeowners. Once purchased, the couple decided to renovate the home and bring out its true potential.

They enlisted the help of a general contractor who specializes in the restoration of modern and mid-century homes. It took a year to complete, and the results are nothing short of spectacular.
Lucky for potential buyers, the couple decided to move to Uptown for a more urban lifestyle. They turned to Rhonda + Mike Gibbons with  Savvy + Co. Real Estate to sell the home and are ready to work with buyers who want the chance to live in one of the Queen City’s most unique homes!

“What I love best about this home is as soon as you walk in the door you feel good,” Mike Gibbons, listing agent of the property, said. “The warm wood, calming simplicity of design, easy transition from room to room and the expansive floor to ceiling windows make you feel as if you are one with nature and more importantly one with the home.”
The yearlong renovation included the addition of a two-car carport and concrete driveway that parks 15 cars, extensive privacy landscaping and a Japanese Zen style garden. Inside, the Hans Krug kitchen includes two large kitchen islands, a wine fridge that stores 120 bottles, hardwood floors, custom-built closets, smart home engineering and the list goes on and on.
With renovations complete, the home stacks some serious star power! It has been featured in local, national and international publications and used for commercial photo shoots.

Additionally, it won a 2015 mention in Kitchen & Bath Business, was highlighted in Atomic Ranch Magazine and named the featured home in the 2015 Mad About Modern Home tour. Not impressed? This house has a nine foot shower — what?
The outside of this 1.2 acre home on a corner lot is equally dreamy. There’s an extra large covered porch with a party pool. Why do you need a party pool? With deepest point at only six feet, guests can gently wade into the water without spilling their drink. Genius! The amenities continue with two waterfall features, a fireplace, fire pit and four maintenance-free grass strips with hardscaping.

“This home will make you smile,” Gibbons said. “Whether you’re a fan of modern architecture, love simple elegant design or just like to feel truly at peace in your surroundings you will love this home.”
Mid-century modern homes are alive and well in Charlotte, and the team at Savvy + Co. Real Estate knows what defines MCM and where to find these gems. Want to see this home and find your WOW? Give them a call.

Unique and Special Home Based on a MCM Plan on 4+ Acres!

Once in a while life presents an opportunity that is far and few in between, and 1306 Meadowdale Rd is just one of those moments! 4 lush acres of manicured lawns and woods offer privacy and serenity, and hosts one of the coolest homes ever conceived. Based on a Mid-Century Modern house plan, this amazing home was built in 1986 and has been lovingly maintained and updated over the years.

This sprawling ranch basement offers iconic post and beam construction, with walls of glass and  glass doors which harmonize the indoor areas with the outdoor living and entertaining areas. Set back from the street, the central courtyard welcome guests to the light filled foyer of this home. Inside you will find vaulted and beamed ceilings and wood floors which add warmth, to open and flowing light filled spaces.

From the foyer, look right and into the ample dining room, which steps down two steps into the sunken spacious living room, with a stone fireplace and flanking bookcases. Both rooms lead to a stone terrace over looking a tranquil and stocked pond. From the foyer, look left into the large family room, which also offers a matching stone fireplace  and is open to the convenient and functional kitchen. The kitchen resides behind the foyer, between the family room and dining room and overlooks the rear yard. It features solid wood cabinetry topped by a solid surface counter, and offers a plentitude of counter and cabinet space. Appliances include a 48” smooth surface cooktop, refrigerator, dishwasher and trash compactor.

The Master Retreat is located in it’s own wing, just off of the living and dining room areas. The vaulted sleeping chamber is huge and offers a expansive wall of sliding glass doors to a private sleeping terrace. The renovated master bath invites you in for a spa experience with oversized shower, separate soaking tub and floating vanity with vessel sinks. Nearby is a large walk-in closet.

There are 3 additional bedrooms in another wing off of the family room. Each of these rooms has vaulted ceilings and sliding glass doors to either the pool terrace or a private terrace and are served by a updated hall bath.  Also just off of the family room is the drop zone area, leading to the over-sized double garage and stairs to the lower level. This level makes for a wonderful rec room, media room or man cave, has a large 5th bedroom with another large closet and another full bath.

From the family room, through sliding glass doors is a wonderful private enclosed pool terrace with in-ground swimming pool. A special place to entertain family and friends, to have a summer blast, or a late night romantic swim on a hot summer’s night!

Mid-Century Modern in Sherwood Forest

True mid-century moderns are rare in Charlotte, NC.   There are a hand full, here and there, but there are really not a lot.  Especially if you want to be near town, and if you have a "budget".   So when buyers say they want a true MCM - I tell them they better be ready to pull the trigger when they see one.   Buyers: Pull that Trigger!

One of Charlotte's fine examples of a true custom built MCM architecture just hit the market.  5601 Riviere, is located in the Forest Heights neighborhood... also known as Sherwood Forest.  This home was built designed by local architect Alan Ingram in 1960 for  Norman and Paula Musler.  They lived in the home until 2003 when it was purchased by Debra and Wesley Moore.  (Translation: This two owner home...hasn't been mucked with.)

5601 Riviere is a fantastic example of mid-century modern style.  From the moment you pull around the bend and see it's low slung lines against the landscape you can feel it pull you in.  The entrance has open rafters that frame the double  doors and slate entry patio.

Inside the vaulted ceilings draw you in to the "fab" style.   Walking around the glass topped partition wall you are wowed by a large living room with floor to ceiling windows, the long bench original iron work railing up elevated formal dining level.  The current owners opened the kitchen up to this space when they remodeled.  New flat paneled cabinets have been added to the kitchen but the owners kept the original layout.  Outside the cooking triangle there is a row of cabinets for all your entertaining wares.  Plus the original dumb waiter to get those pots of fondue down to the game room!

There are four bedrooms and three baths on the main level.  The master has dual closets and the master bath was updated with new cabinets and countertops but the original tile,  mirror and medicine cabinets were left. (because they are so cool).

Between the two largest bedrooms there is a Jack and Jill bath.  This was totally remodeled with contemporary fixtures and tile in keeping with the MCM style.

My favorite feature might be this staircase.  The solid wood treads float on straight iron work.  They reach from the kitchen level down to the family room.  They just don't make staircases like that any more.  The downstairs family or game room is cozy.  One wall has the original built in bookshelves along with an electric fireplace.  (So 60's!)  Large sliding glass doors lead out to the terrace and large wooded lot.

The current owners did a lot of "behind the walls" renovating.  They removed the original tar and gravel roof that had start to give up the fight.  Then had insulation and new sheathing installed.  This was a great improvement to the utility bills.  They also put in an on demand water heater and new high efficiency HVAC system.

If you are looking for a true original Mid-Century Modern home in Charlotte NC with just the right amount of updating - this may be the one you want to move fast for.  Contact Savvy + Co. for a showing: 704-560-4604.

Atomic Ranch in Madison Park - Charlotte

5310 Glenham Drive: Atomic Ranch
Wow!  We love this Madison Park Atomic Ranch has been renovated with much love.   When you pull up to the house it's hard not to notice it's sleek landscaping and smart style.  The low pitched roof spans across it's modern carport. Don't miss the cool planter on wheels that provides privacy for the patio.

Inside the owners have updated the kitchen with sleek contemporary cabinets, mosaic tile backsplash and Silestone countertops.  They also opened it up to the large family room so it's great for entertaining.  The fireplace covers the back wall with floor to ceiling thin stack brick with a copper fireplace surround.

Rolling Planter and New Metal Roof!
Through out the house has vaulted beamed ceilings.  The standing seam metal roof will last for years to come - and looks great too.

There is terrific out door space too!  Off the master suite there is a private patio on the side yard. The back yard is beautifully landscaped and there is a large new patio with room for a hot tub.

There are few fab mid-century modern homes in Charlotte in this price range - so don't miss this one.   Fantastic location, swell style, and nothing to do but hang the art.
